4th of July--A Family Affair

The theme of this year's celebration reflects the importance of families in our community. We also wish to recognize all of the “Founding Families” whose descendants still live in Glenview – as well as Family-Owned Businesses - with a special role as our guest Grand Marshalls throughout the Parade. If you (or someone you know) are a descendant of a family who has lived in Glenview since before the year 1909, or a Family-Owned Business which has been in Glenview since 1959 - please call or email Commissioner Elizabeth Fritz at (847) 668-9255 or Fritz@Pioneerlocal.com for more information.

Schedule of Events
Saturday, July 4, 2009

11 am:  BIKE PARADE
Sponsored by Cook County Commissioner Gregg Goslin and the Abington of Glenview
Children, ages preschool to 9 years, are invited to step off the parade by bringing their decorated bike to the corner of Glenview Rd. and Church St. by 10:30 am. Free, no pre-registration required. Bike helmets are strongly recommended. Participation ribbons will be presented to all children. No judging involved.

11:30 am:  MAIN PARADE
Sponsored by the Glenview State Bank
As proud sponsor of this year’s parade, the Glenview State Bank invites you to celebrate this community tradition by attending the 44th annual Independence Day Parade. The 2009 parade will start at the OLPH parking lot, go west on Glenview Road, turn south on Harlem to Central, then march west on Central ending at Johns Park.

Stay on the SafeSide. To ensure our parade remains safe and spectacular, this year’s parade route will be lined on both sides in red. Please be sure that your family, friends and neighbors stay on the SafeSide, behind the red line, to ensure their safety and the safety of the parade participants.

7:30 pm:  TWILIGHT SHOW
Sponsored by Glenview State Bank
On the beautiful grounds of the Glenview Park Golf Club, 800 Shermer Rd., the Twilight Show begins with a patriotic concert by the 100-piece North Shore Concert Band. The show is climaxed by fireworks synchronized to patriotic music. For more info, call (847) 724-5670.

Support Your Glenview Family..Make a Donation
As we begin the final preparations for the 44th annual Independence Day festivities, the Glenview 4th of July Commission needs your help. The fantastic parade and spectacular fireworks show cost thousands of dollars. Though we receive extensive personnel, public works and safety support at no cost from the Glenview Park District and the Village of Glenview, our direct event expenses exceed $70,000 and are paid entirely with donations made by our residents and businesses. Our ability to continue to provide this wonderful celebration depends on your support.

Pick up a donation form at Park Center, 2400 Chestnut, Village Hall, 1225 Waukegan Rd. or click here to make your donation online.
